Casting: The Salem Witch Tryout series
I absolutely adore The Salem Witch Tryouts and its subsequent sequels. There are only three books that I have read, but they are all such fun, despite discrepancies between the books.

So, anyway, what if you're a beautiful and blonde straight-A student (and thus, by default are absurdly popular) who's poised to become the youngest ever head cheerleader in your school and living in the bastion of movie stars no less (it's Beverly Hills, for those who don't know)? You live the luxe life. Which is what sixteen year old high school junior Prudence "Pru" Stewart is doing. But there's a hitch: your mom is a witch, and you've inherited those annoying witch powers that you were supposed to master but for some reason you got too stuck with all your insane academic and co-curricular achievements in the mortal realm. No biggie, right? Not for you, maybe, but your younger brother, Tobias Stewart (but he's a Dorklock, so you call him that) can't seem to control his powers (and flip all the teacher's skirts to see their knickers - perv), and now mom wants to uproot your nice, idyllic life in Bev Hills for - insert gasp - Salem, Massachusetts, to study magic, no less! Piece of cake? You wish. Crappacino.

What was your mom thinking? There's no way you can survive Agatha's Day School for Witches (seriously, what's with the name?), especially with Agatha mocking your witch abilities (or lack thereof), your chance of being popular skewered, and your chance at straight-A superstardom in dust (and your dream job as a pediatrician as well). No way. And you realize that you're totally not prepared for anything! (Somehow, your mom forgot to tell you that you need to manifest a Talent if you want true witch stardom). And cheerleading? Well, forget about it - you need magic to cheer at Agatha's, and Tara, the head cheerleader? Well, she hates your guts.

But one thing about Pru Stewart? She's a self-professed "type A on overdrive" (just like daddy - awww), and she never says die. Ever. She's determined to regain her status as It Girl in Agatha's by the time she graduates, with the help of her fringie friends Samuel, Maria, Denise, her family, including her mom, grandma, Cousin Seamus (and - if need be - even the Dorklock, who has embraced his inner Dorklock - I mean, warlock). Still, there's Agatha and Tara to deal with. Not to mention the hot, smexy and dangerous rebel Daniel Murdoch, who wants to take you over to the dark side (not quite literally, but he understands you - sort of - even with he's Trouble with a capital T).

(Can you tell I ship Pru/Daniel? He's just awesome.)

In my opinion, the first book was the best. Later books have discrepancies (such as the Talents where the ability to read emotions is tossed up between Fire and Water, Charity being in Tara's year but then in the third book she is in Pru's year, and What Really Happened During Pru's Belated Sweet Sixteen) not to mention a serious lack of the one and only Daniel Murdoch, who only makes a small cameo in the third book. It's still tons of fun to read, as the author (Kelly McClymer) brings a twist to the teenage witch genre with sass and style, and Pru's monologues are delivered with wit and all too funny colloquisms. It's extremely refreshing and I still enjoy reading and rereading. Pru is a likeable, easy character to root for, at least in the first book; due to discrepancies in the later books, it is quite strange, when Pru claims to love Biology as opposed to Physics (first book) and then turns around in the second book to say science was so boring (heavens, I thought that gilr wanted to be a pediatrician). I must confess, I liked it better earlier on in the series when she had a brain and academic acheivements, because then her fall from grace was so much more bitter and she became a more likeable heroine, as opposed to the less academically-inclined character in the later part of the series.

Anyway, Pru's still one of the most likeable characters I've read for a long time. I recommend any sassy young teenager to read it as well. Sort of Bewitched meets Sabrina, The Teenage Witch, but with more fun!

But back to the point - who do I want to see cast in an adaptation for The Salem Witch Tryout series?
